The new creation of Akram Khan, "Gigenis | The Generation of the Earth," evokes the myths and legends of the classical world rooted in nature. Seven Indian classical dance artists will be joined by as many Indian classical musicians, using Western and Indian tradition as a tool to reflect on the future.
“What excites me most, is that for the first time in my career I am delving into a project where I will be directing a group of extraordinary soloist artists through the lens of my contemporary sensibilities.
Right now, there is an urgent part of me, that feels strongly, and with conviction, that we have sadly, collectively lost touch with nature, with Mother Earth, and with ancient myths… and so, I feel there is a need to once again listen to the ones that are deeply rooted in nature, and who very much embody the ancient and future generations of this earth.”
