U.A.G. Urban African Groove Dance

Dance Lab

October 17, 2026 at 4:00 pm

A workshop exploring the contemporary evolution of African dance through Afro, Urban and Funky rhythms.

Urban African Groove Dance blends Afro, Urban, Techno and Funky sounds into a contemporary evolution of traditional African dances. Inspired by the Ritmi e Danze Afro® method by Katina and Bruno Genero, this lab led by Simon Giavy highlights each student's talent, tenacity and technique through captivating rhythms.

Open to everyone aged 14 and over, with no prior dance experience required, this two-hour session includes a warm-up, technical work, a final choreography and cultural insights into the discipline. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the energy of movement in an inviting setting.

We recommend that participants join with comfortable clothes to move in.

4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Dance Lab - €30

During the event, photos and videos may be taken for the promotion of the event itself or similar events. Those who do not wish to be filmed may mention this at the reception desk prior to the activity.

Simon Giavy, born in Bahia (Brazil) and raised in Italy—with various international stints along the way—is a dancer and teacher of Ritmi e Danze Afro®, a style created by Katina and Bruno Genero, pioneers of Afro dance and music in Italy (1979). After intensive training that spanned various dance styles—all characterized by a strong sense of rhythm—he specialized in the U.A.G. Dance (Urban African Groove) style, a brand and umbrella term for his diverse expressiveness.

His educational journey is enriched by the theoretical and experiential training program “AFRICAE MUNDI,” curated by Katina Genero and affiliated with the International Dance Council (CID) at UNESCO, which explores the cultural, philosophical, and spiritual aspects of African civilizations. He participates in intensive workshops on Afro music and dance as well as contemporary dance to constantly expand and enrich his artistic language.

In addition to regular classes at MAMADANSE Dance Training Center in Turin, she creates U.A.G. events such as “L.O.L.A!” (Lights Off, Let’s Amplify) for the Lavanderia a Vapore in Collegno, “Maxi U.A.G. DJ Set” for the Reggia di Venaria, and “U.A.G. DJ Set” for “Balla Torino.”

His energy and sunny disposition in his approach to dance engage students in a blend of learning and fun, making his classes highly engaging.
