Choreographic Synergies: Ballet and Graham

Monica Perego is a ballet dancer and teacher with a distinguished international career. At the age of just 16, she won a scholarship at the Benetton Danza competition to attend the Royal Ballet School in London. After an initial apprenticeship with Birmingham Royal Ballet, she joined English National Ballet, where she was promoted to Principal Dancer at the age of just 23. She went on to perform leading roles from the classical and neoclassical repertoire in major theatres around the world.

In 2000, she was included in Debrett’s People of Today among the 1,000 most notable personalities in the United Kingdom. After returning to Italy in 2002, she continued her career as a freelance artist and guest star, collaborating with international companies and theatres. She also partnered with Roberto Bolle in numerous prestigious galas and international events. Throughout her career, she performed in more than 2,200 shows and received several important awards and recognitions in the field of dance.

After retiring from the stage in 2009, she dedicated herself to training and mentoring younger generations of dancers. In 2013, she founded Dance Heart, her dance school in Monza, and has since taught at several leading training institutions, including the M.A.S. Academy in Milan and the AIDA Higher Education Centre. She is also certified in Progressing Ballet Technique.

Since 2024, she has organised the Tuscany Dance Project and, from 2025, has been a teacher at Casa Sanremo Campus as well as Technical Director for ACSI Danza training, where she contributes to the development of educational programmes for teachers and young dancers.

Giulia D’Antoni began her professional training at the Teatro alla Scala Ballet School in Milan. She later received a scholarship to the Balletto di Toscana and continued her studies in Vienna, graduating in 2012 from the Vienna State Opera.

She furthered her training at the Boston Ballet School Summer Intensive, then moved to New York to complete the Professional Training Program (2014) and the Teacher Training Program (2015) at the Martha Graham School. She also joined the Graham II company, delving deeper into historical and contemporary repertoires of the Graham technique.

Alongside her career as a performer, she has developed an active teaching practice. She has taught in the United States at the Martha Graham Dance School, the Peridance Capezio Center, the Broadway Dance Center, and in educational programs such as UDA New York and Rioult Dance’s DanceREACH Program. After moving to Italy, she taught at Orsolina28, MAS Music Arts & Show in Milan, and TAM.

Today, she is a full-time faculty member at the International School of Milan.

Giulia serves as the Italian representative for Graham for Europe, promoting the Graham technique through summer intensives, events, masterclasses, and teacher training courses.

Giulia is a certified instructor with the American Ballet Theater (from Pre-Primary to Level 3) and a certified Graham Technique instructor. She also holds a master’s degree in Kinesiology and is a certified Pilates instructor—qualifications that allow her to integrate scientific and pedagogical expertise into her teaching.

Born in Sardinia, Maria Biosa began studying dance at the age of four and went on to specialize in classical and contemporary dance at the “Liceo Coreutico Azuni” in Sassari. It was there that she had her first professional experience, as a dancer in a production of the opera “Turandot.” After completing high school, she moved to Milan to pursue a professional career in contemporary dance at “M.A.S. Music, Arts & Show,” where she graduated in 2023. There, she began studying the Graham technique with Giulia D’Antoni and then attended a three-week summer Intensive at the “Martha Graham School” in New York. Alongside her academic studies, she attended a professional teacher training course, “ACSI d.e.e.,” becoming a certified first-level instructor in preparatory classical dance. She also completed the training course for the “PBT” (Progressive Ballet Technique) method, of which she is now a certified teacher. For the past two years, she has participated in the “Graham for Europe” organization’s Summer Intensive programs, which focus on teacher training and pedagogical development. On February 6, 2026, she performed at the San Siro Stadium for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, with a choreography by Adriano Bolognino. She has also performed with the contemporary dance company “Déjà Donné” (in collaboration with “MAS Company”) in the shows “TRE/14” (March 2025) and “RAVEL.suite” (May 2023 at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan), under the choreographic and artistic direction of Virginia Spallarossa. In May 2023, she joined the cast of “Miraculous – The Musical Show,” an internationally-produced musical.
