“Horizons” features excerpts from the repertoire of the artistic duo Riva & Repele, reworked during a two-week residency at Orsolina28.
With their “Horizons” program, Sasha Riva and Simone Repele explore the human journey through the passage of time. The horizon becomes an unreachable point, a delicate line that shifts further away the more we attempt to approach it. Perhaps it is precisely there, in that suspended space between what has been and what remains unknown, that souls eventually find their quiet. With their distinctive choreographic language, Sasha Riva and Simone Repele create a poetic landscape in which movement becomes a tool for reflection on identity, relationships, memory, and the invisible thresholds that shape the course of life.
The evening begins with “I Meet You Where the Horizon Ends”: an endless dialogue between two lovers at a crossroads, a conversation suspended between reality and dreams, in which two inner worlds unfold, exposing their deepest fears and desires.
With “I’m On Your Side,” an excerpt from the “Rendez-vous” gala, Riva & Repele imagine their future as elderly people. Set to the music of “John and the Farmer” by Packie Manus Byrne and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon & Garfunkel, the piece explores the themes of the passage of time and the fear of growing old, reflecting on the idea of mutual support and continuing to walk side by side, even when, after a lifetime together, you can no longer stand each other.
To close the evening, Riva & Repele perform excerpts from “Dear Son,” a choreographic journey through grief, memory and love. Inspired by a family torn apart by war, the piece follows a mother, a father and a son, forced to part ways when the boy leaves for the front. The story begins with a family portrait, a moment frozen in time, filled with dreams and promises; in the present, an elderly mother writes a letter to the son she still hopes to see again; in the future, the parents endure, living with the memory of what they have lost.
