Intensive

Pina Bausch Lab

Intensive 2026

June 28 – July 5, 2026

Learn from masters, create your own path

The program

Pina Bausch Lab is a six-day intensive program that gives dancers a unique opportunity to experience first hand the work of Pina Bausch. Selected excerpts will be from various pieces of her work which expands over three decades. The day will consist of a warm-up in ballet or contemporary dance followed by a deep dive of learning repertoire, where we will engage with questions and themes of the material, including personal creativity, so that the scenes are lived in and integrated by the individual dancer. The program will conclude with an informal showing. Join us to learn and embody the repertoire of Pina Bausch while expanding creative tools and discovering a deep physical investigation.

Further information on the work and life of Pina Bausch can be found at: www.pinabausch.org.

Silvia Farias Heredia was born in 1976 in Córdoba, Argentina, but grew up in Ecuador. The Argentinian took her first dance classes at the early age of six but gradually realised that modern dance appealed to her more than classical ballet. By sixteen, she was dancing with Compañía Nacional de Danza del Ecuador, but she was keen to continue her dance education abroad once she finished school. When a dancer friend told her about the Folkwang Hochschule (later Folkwang University of the Arts), she applied and was accepted. She studied dance there from 1995 to 1999 under teachers including Jean Cébron, Lutz Förster, Anne Marie Benati, Malou Airaudo, Dominique Mercy and Libby Nye. Proximity to Wuppertal made it easy to see Tanztheater performances, and Farias Heredia was thrilled by what she saw, by everything that dance could be. She went to Paris for an audition and was hired by Pina Bausch, initially as a guest artist, for Das Frühlingsopfer (The Rite of Spring). This led to a permanent position with the company in 2000.
