F.A.Q. - Intensive
Application and Registration Process
How do I sign up for an Intensive program?
To join our Intensive program, you need to apply through our platform. You will be required to send your curriculum vitae and a motivation letter, as well as one or two dance videos (depending on the program). The application fee of €40 is non-refundable.
If you are accepted, you will receive a letter detailing the next steps, from paying the tuition fee (don’t miss on the Early Bird rate!) to how to get ready for your trip.
Can I apply for more than one Intensive?
Yes, you can apply for as many Intensives as you want, by sending an individual application for each of them. If you are accepted, you can only register for up to two consecutive weeks.
How old do I need to be to apply?
All participants need to be 18. You can apply if you are still 17 as long as you will have turned 18 by the time of the program.
Do I need a background in ballet to attend?
It depends on the program. We recommend that you look at the application requirements on our application platform (you can open the application process as many times as you need to check the criteria, you will only submit the application once you have completed the final step with the payment). When ballet experience is required, we ask that participants send us a short video (2-3 minutes) showcasing their experience in classical ballet (tendu, adagio, grand allegro).
Do I need a background in contemporary dance to attend?
While the level of experience required may vary based on the program, we recommend that all participants to our Intensives are familiar with contemporary dance.
How can I get a scholarship?
Orsolina28 grants partial scholarships based on economic need and artistic talent. To be considered please send us a letter of intent and a letter of recommendation (from a teacher or mentor) with your application. We will contact you by email to inform you if you have been awarded a partial scholarship. All decisions concerning scholarships are final.
Getting Ready for the Intensive
How do I get to Orsolina28 Art Foundation?
The closest airports are in Milan (where there are three airports: Linate, Malpensa and Bergamo Orio Al-Serio) and in Turin Caselle.
Orsolina28 provides a free-of-charge shuttle service from the closest train station to Orsolina28 and back. If you wish to use this service, please sign up while completing your registration.
If you prefer to arrive independently, you can take a train to the towns of Asti or Vercelli and then arrange your own private transportation or local taxi from there.
What shall I pack?
We will send you a packing list before your arrival. Bedsheets, towels and basic toiletries will be provided.
During the Intensive
I’m worried about sleeping in a tent. Is it comfortable? What’s the bathroom situation like?
All tents in our Glamping accommodate four to six people and are equipped with modern comforts: air conditioning, heating and a private bathroom. We also have several changing rooms all over Orsolina28.
Can I share the tent with a friend of mine?
Send us your request in advance while signing up or email intensive@orsolina28.it and we will do our best to accommodate.
Can I come to observe the classes or only join some specific sessions?
It is only possible to attend the whole Intensive, attending all classes and living onsite. This allows the participants to be fully involved and focused in the experience and to develop relationships with the other students and teachers.
Are meals provided by Orsolina28? How does it work?
We provide participants with a full board: breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served daily in our restaurant. Meals are buffet-style and provide a variety of options, all made with local, organic ingredients, with vegetables harvested from our gardens.
I have special dietary requirements: who can I speak with?
If you have any dietary requirements, please let us know in advance while signing up or by emailing intensive@orsolina28.it.
Can I take photos and videos of the classes?
We will have a videomaker onsite to create a short video about the experience and a photographer will document the student sharing. We will share all materials with you in the fall months following the Intensive.
Please make sure to ask permission to the teachers and your fellow students before you take photos and videos in the studios or of other people.
I have seen that our schedule includes Gravity classes and Green Labs: what are they? Is there a fee to attend?
Both Gravity classes and Green Labs are included in the tuition.
Gravity is a functional and complete workout that alternates postural and core-strengthening exercises with stretching, balance, coordination and control drills. We offer warmup classes in the morning and cool down sessions in the evening, specifically designed for dancers.
Orsolina28 is set amidst lush greenery and guided by principles of sustainability, features greenhouses, native plants, wild herbs, and fruit trees, an ideal setting for moments of discovery, observation, and active participation Our Green Labs are nature-based tours and experiential activities designed to foster participants’ relationship with the surrounding environment. Each session offers a new perspective on the natural world, from discovering ornamental and cultivation greenhouses, to working in the orchards and vegetable gardens.
What is the Student Sharing on Saturday night? Is it open to the public?
All of our Intensive programs (with the exception of Jiří Kylián’s and GagaLab) end with a public presentation of the students’ work, held on our Open Air Stage. Participation to the sharing is not mandatory and is up to the individual student. This sharing is offered free-charge to the community: if you want to invite your friends and family, just make sure that they reserve their free ticket. They can also stay for dinner after the sharing (at a fee), but will need to make a reservation.
