Naomi Berrill

Outside the Box

April 22 – April 26, 2026

Orsolina28 Art Foundation is pleased to welcome Irish cellist, singer-songwriter and composer Naomi Berrill for a residency dedicated to the development and presentation of musical project “Outside the Box”, joined by cellist and composer Lamberto Curtoni.

Program unfolds as a fluid and open journey, moving freely between different musical worlds: from J.S. Bach to Björk, from Sardinian singer-songwriter Andrea Parodi to Radiohead. At its core are Berrill’s original compositions, inspired by the wide spectrum of musical languages she inhabits. The result invites the audience into a sonic landscape of contrasts and beauty, where diverse sounds and influences coexist in a rich and harmonious palette.

Naomi Berrill

Naomi Berrill is an Irish cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer based in Florence. After completing her classical training across Scotland, Switzerland, and Italy, she began exploring a personal approach to performance, using the cello not only as a classical instrument but as an extension of the voice.

Her work blends composition, arrangement, and improvisation, drawing from a wide range of musical traditions. This versatility has led her to collaborate with artists across classical, jazz, and contemporary music, including Danusha Waskiewicz, Giovanni Sollima, Mario Brunello, Vincent Courtois, Ernst Reijseger, and Alessandro Lanzoni.

Alongside her concert activity, she maintains an ongoing collaboration with choreographer Virgilio Sieni and engages with projects spanning dance, design, and interdisciplinary performance. She has performed at major international venues and festivals such as the Venice Biennale, the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, and Galway European Capital of Culture.

Berrill has released four albums, developing a distinctive voice that moves between intimate songwriting and experimental composition. She is also the artistic director of High Notes, a music festival set in the Apuan Alps.

Lamberto Curtoni

Lamberto Curtoni is an Italian cellist and composer trained at the Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Turin, where he later refined his studies with Giovanni Sollima and Gaetano Nasillo, deepening his interest in historically informed performance practice.

His artistic path moves fluidly between early music and contemporary creation, combining a rigorous approach to interpretation with a strong compositional voice. He performs regularly in major concert halls and festivals in Italy and abroad, including the Ravello Festival, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and international venues across Europe and beyond.

Curtoni has collaborated with a wide range of internationally renowned artists, among them Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, Mario Brunello, Franco Battiato, and Enrico Rava, as well as with leading orchestras and ensembles.

Alongside his performing career, he is active as a composer for concert music, theatre, dance, and film. His works have been presented internationally and commissioned by major institutions, reflecting a practice that continuously bridges musical traditions and contemporary experimentation.
