Der Wanderer

Robert Schumann's First Trio is the fruit of a fervent creative moment in his musical production. Recently married to Clara, he writes this work in the canonical form of the four movements, paying attention to the continuous changes of sound environment, thus creating, for the listener, an introspective journey into his inner universe, studded with contrasts and ambivalences, that they will almost never find a definitive synthesis in the music of this author. With the same intent as the journey, the crystalline notes of Franz Schubert's "Nocturn" recall suspended landscapes at the beginning, in a dreamy and ethereal climate, to then become more earthly and heroic in the central part; this takes place through surprising harmonic modulations, which gradually give way to the opening up of the overall panorama of the piece. Schumann and Schubert therefore meet, albeit in apparently opposite ways, in what is the eternal romantic figure of the Wanderer, the wayfarer: the one who is constantly on the move, in search of himself and of a perhaps unattainable truth.

Robert Schumann (1810-1856): Piano Trio n° 1 op. 63 in Re Minore

Franz Schubert (1797-1828): Piano Trio op. 148 D. 897 "Notturno" in MI bemolle Maggiore

Der Wanderer is one of the concerts of Cherry Notes 2023 programming, created in collaboration with Unione Musicale, Torino. Artistic direction by Antonio Valentino.

Cherry Notes 2023 programming takes us to the roots of ancient musical traditions placing them in communication with our present.

Formed by musicians Ginevra Bassetti, Francesca Giglio and Marianna Pulsoni, the Trio Hèrmes soon gained the attention of the Italian youth music scene. In fact, the Trio performed in concerts at festivals and concert seasons of national and international importance such as the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, the Amici della Musica in Modena, the Società Aquilana dei Concerti B. Barattelli, the Liszt Chamber Music Festival in Rome, Musica Insieme Bologna, GoG Giovine Orchestra Genovese, the Festival delle Nazioni of Città di Castello, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Società Letteraria of Verona, the Unione Musicale in Turin, Trame Sonore OCM Mantua, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, IUC Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti, Marche Concerti and others.

Absolute prize winner of the European Music Competition "Città di Moncalieri" 2019, of the First Prize at the "Crescendo" competition in Florence 2021 and of the First Prize at the "Premio Alberghini" competition in Bologna, the Trio studied the repertoire under the guidance of the Trio di Parma and Pierpaolo Maurizzi, brilliantly achieving the title of Second Level Master in Chamber Music at the "Arrigo Boito" Conservatory in Parma.

They further continued their studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, in the Chamber Music class of Maestro Ivan Rabaglia, obtaining the final Diploma.

During their formative years, Hèrmes Trio attended the Masterclasses organized by the MUK – Music and Arts Private University of Vienna, and was selected to take part in the summer Masterclass held by the members of the Cuarteto Casals. They also had the pleasure of deepening their studies with musicians such as Andrea Lucchesini, Antonio Valentino, Ives Savary, Mark Messenger, Simone Gramaglia, Patrick Jüdt, Jennifer Stumm.

In 2021 the Trio was selected by Simone Gramaglia to join the network of "Le Dimore del Quartetto" and by M. Bruno Giuranna to take part in the high specialization courses of the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, where they had the honor of performing in concert at the Palazzo Chigi Saracini.

In 2022, the ensemble debuted in the official season of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana at the Teatro Argentina in Rome, and at the TauberPhilarmonie in Weikersheim for the grand opening first concert of the year, in collaboration with Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. The Trio was also selected by the MDW University of Vienna to take part in their prestigious Summer Academy, the ISA, thus having the opportunity to work with teachers such as Hatto Beyerle, Avedis Kouyomdjian, Johannes Meissl and others.

Individually, the members of the Trio obtained the relative Diploma at the Conservatory of "Santa Cecilia" in Rome, "Alfredo Casella" in L'Aquila and "Giuseppe Martucci" in Salerno, perfecting themselves with teachers such as Lukas Hagen, Marco Rizzi, Adrian Pinzaru, Gianluca Giganti, Bruno Delepelaire, Patrick Demenga, Drahomira Biligova, Roberto Plano and Daniel Buranovsky, obtaining important individual awards.
