The Vegetable Garden
The vegetable garden is the result of authentic farming skills mastered by modern techniques.
The cultivation is carried out on eight flowerbeds facing south and follows a seasonal crop rotation in order to obtain a better soil structure. The total area is about 4500 square meters, 640 of which in greenhouses, and produces high quality organic vegetables. Each terrace produces a variety of traditional and unusual aromatic herbs as well as edible and colorful flowers such as nasturtium, yarrow millefeuillea, borage and balsamina.
The only adjuvants are the human work (the weeds are strictly hand teared), the straw and the wood chips, used as mulch for weed control and to reduce water consumption. The flowers and medicinal herbs are used instead to attract pollinating and antagonistic insects such as the ladybugs, to fight the noxious insects. To fight fungal pathogens is implemented the use of beneficial microorganisms and the technique of biofumigating green manure.
