Quist Method with Nicholas Palmquist
I love to dance and teach at Orsolina28 because it was built for dancers of all intentions and backgrounds to take themselves seriously in the same way. It is a soulful and state of the art place, with beautiful food, views, and people. It is my favorite studio in the world!"
Nicholas Palmquist
This fall, Nicholas Palmquist brings his movement language to Orsolina28 Art Foundation for a third October!
Quist Method is a sharing of his idea: rather than testing how well participants can perform them his movements, they will focus on how to learn them, how to make it look more natural, coordinated, and expressive. Participants will do this by examining the way we speak to and about ourselves while learning. Much of Palmquist’s focus is in reshaping our ideas of hard work that proves itself as compared to long work that knows how to endure. Together at Orsolina28, participants will get better at what they put their energy toward.
Throughout the workshop, Palmquist will teach excerpts of his repertoire from various professional work as well as new and exploratory movements. His experiences in TV, film, fashion, theater and contemporary ballet provide a variety of perspectives and movement influences, with his choreography becoming a talking point for style, musicality and storytelling.
This workshop is open to all but requires stamina and a student mindset.
Nicholas Palmquist
Nicholas Palmquist is an internationally recognised teacher and choreographer, currently based in Europe. As a freelance dancer in New York City, his eclectic work experience ranged from films, like “In The Heights” and episodes of SNL, TheTonight Show, and Netflix Original Series, to live performances with American Dance Machine at the Joyce Theater and Guggenheim Works and Process Series. He danced for Mia Michaels at Radio City Music Hall with The Rockettes, and again for Rob Ashford at The Tony Awards. Palmquist has partnered Diana Vishneva in an Edward Club original work and taught for her festival, “Context”, in both Moscow and St Petersburg, and recently created a world premiere for The Semperoper Ballet in Germany.
Nicholas has taught workshops for Staatsballett Berlin and their educational program TANZ IST KLASSE!, continuing to develop his genre bending movement language into a Method. From a pedagogic perspective, has worked to broaden his experiences by seeing his ideas translated across a variety of ages and levels of experience. In addition to his world-famous classes at Steps on Broadway in New York City, Palmquist has accepted invitations to teach in Italy, Spain, the Philippines, France, London, Germany, Brazil, Austria, Mexico, Sweden, Russia, Poland, Paraguay, Shanghai, Japan, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. During the pandemic, from the Instagram account, "@napalmquist”, Nicholas raised and coordinated thousands of dollars to help facilitate the relationship between dance spaces, artists, students, and patrons. His unique focus on artistry, education, and musicality has been hugely supported by social media and he is grateful and curious to be an artist of his generation. His experiences teaching online during the pandemic challenged and affirmed his love for quality dance education.
