BIOGRAPHY
After her early ballet training in Baltimore and Washington, Myrna Kamara pursued her studies at the School of American Ballet in New York.
She began her professional career in the New York City Ballet where she danced roles in ballets by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, Elliot Feld and Lar Lubovitch. and became later soloist in the Bonn Ballet, under director Youri Vamos, where the role of the Nubiana from Spartacus was created for her.
From 1990 Ms. Kamara was a principal dancer for the Miami City Ballet where she received critical acclaim for her performances in the Balanchine repertoire. Her final company contract as principal dancer was with Maurice Béjart from 1996-1999 in Switzerland. Ms. Kamara as principal guest artist has danced throughout the United States and Europe, in various important theatres worldwide, such as the New York State Theatre, the Kennedy Center, the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Arena di Verona, the Bolshoi, the Marinsky and many more, having worked with world renowned dancers and choreographers.
Among her most renowned performances Ms. Kamara performed at Teatro alla Scala for the production of Franco Zeffirelli’s Opera Aida, where she has portrayed the prima ballerina in the opera.
Myrna Kamara continues dancing with huge success as guest-artists for international famous theatres either in Europe either in the United States. She has a strong knowledge of the Balanchine style and repertory and has recently formed a neoclassical/contemporary dance company based in Zurich: the ballet Xtreme.
Ms. Kamara continues performing, while contributing her knowledge to younger talents and professional level dancers globally. Acclaimed performer, she is still invited as guest artist all over world.
