The choreographers

Artistic director of Nederlands Dans Theater for nearly a quarter of a century, Jiří Kylián started his career at the age of nine at the School of the National Ballet in Prague. Over the course of his influential choreographic career, he received many prestigious, international awards and honors such as Officer of the Royal Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau and an honorary doctorate from the Juilliard School in New York City. To this day, his ballets are frequently performed by dance companies and schools around the world.

As house choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet for many years, house choreographer at Scapino Ballet and associate choreographer at Nederlands Dans Theater, associate choreographer at Gauthier Dance, and director of the Staatsballett Hannover, Marco Goecke has created around a hundred works since 2001. These also include commissions for many international companies such as Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, the Paris Opera Ballet, the Vienna State Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet Seattle, and the Sao Paulo Compania de Danca. He has received numerous international awards, starting with the Prix Dom Perignon in 2003 and the Nijinski Award in 2005. Most recently, he was voted Choreographer of the Year 2021 in Tanz magazine's international critics' poll. The book Dark Matter (Königshausen & Neumann, Würzburg), published in 2016, offers a concise overview of his oeuvre.
Marco Goecke is one of the most interesting dance makers of our time. He pursues his artistic vision without any compromise.

Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite has been creating works for over twenty years. Former company member with Ballet British Columbia and William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt, she made her choreographic debut in 1990. She has created for Nederlands Dans Theater (where she has been an Associate Artist since 2008), The Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada, among other companies and institutions. In 2002, she formed her own company called Kidd Pivot and earned international acclaim for works such as Dark Matters, Lost Action, The You Show, and Betroffenheit.
