The program One-week immersion in the study and practice of repertoire by master choreographer, Jiří Kylián. Led by artists who worked closely with Kylián during his tenure at Nederlands Dans Theater, students will have the opportunity to learn and embody the refined elegance of Kylián’s choreography. Morning classes will alternate between ballet and classes led by artists of the program.

Jiří Kylián

Jiří Kylián (Czechoslovakia, 1947), artistic director of Nederlands Dans Theater for nearly a quarter century, started his career at the age of nine at the School of the National Ballet in Prague.

Over the course of his influential choreographic career, he created over a hundred ballets and received many prestigious, international awards and honors, such as Officer of the Royal Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau, and an honorary doctorate from the Juilliard School in New York City. To this day, his ballets are frequently performed by dance companies and schools around the world.

    Mario Alberto Zambrano has been a dancer for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Nederlands Dans Theater, Batsheva Dance Company, and Ballett Frankfurt. Also a novelist, his debut novel Loteria was published in 2013 and reprinted in five different countries. After serving as a Lecturer at Harvard University for the last three years, he is currently Associate Director of Dance at The Julliard School.

  • Fiona Lummis

    Fiona Lummis was a dancer for twenty years with Netherlands Dance Theater (1981-2001). In 1992, she received the Gouden Theaterdans Prijs for her performances in William’s Forsythe’s "Steptext" and in 2000 was awarded the Oeuvreprijs in recognition of her career in The Netherlands. Fiona can be seen on many of the Arthaus films of Kylián’s ballets, including the Black and White Ballets and Kaguyahime. Presently, she is on the faculty of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and is a Visiting Artist at USC Kaufman (University of Southern California).

  • Aurélie Cayla

    Aurélie Cayla was born in Paris and joined Nederlands Dans Theater in 2005, where she performed works by Jiří Kylián, Hans Van Manen, William Forsythe , Mats Ek, and helped to create works with Crystal Pite, Paul Lightfoot/Sol Leon, and Wayne Mac Gregor. Currently, she is dancing as a freelance artist as part of the group OFF Projects, created in 2012, and stages works by Jiří Kylián. She holds a dance teacher diploma from the Centre national de la Danse in Paris.
