Liberated Joy
This residency offers choreographer Ingrid Silva and the Blacks in Ballet Collective the opportunity to develop a new work, a dynamic fusion of ballet, contemporary dance and live music. “Liberated Joy” will feature bold and expressive movements designed to engage the audience on a deeper level, creating a connection that goes beyond the dance itself. By having an accordionist play live traditional Brazilian music, Silva creates a unique work cultural and emotional depth.
Ingrid Silva
Ingrid Silva, born in Rio de Janeiro, trained in classical ballet and danced with Deborah Colker and Grupo Corpo, before moving to New York to join the Dance Theatre of Harlem, where she is now a principal dancer.

Blacks in Ballet
Blacks in Ballet was founded with the mission to promote diversity within the global dance community. Through cultural exchanges and educational resources, the organization creates opportunities for dancers of color, with the goal of celebrating, elevating, and showcasing the beauty and artistry of Black bodies in dance.
Through a combination of cultural exchanges, workshops, performances, mentorship programs, and educational resources, Blacks in Ballet provides opportunities for dancers of color to hone their craft, gain exposure, and connect with industry leaders, choreographers, and other influential figures in the dance world. By fostering these connections, the organization not only empowers dancers but also ensures that the next generation of Black dancers have the tools, knowledge, and support needed to thrive in the ballet and broader dance landscape. The ultimate goal of Blacks in Ballet is to bring visibility to the artistry, grace, and excellence of Black bodies in dance.
