our vision

colors, sounds, scents
nature, gifts, surprises

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Maya Angelou

Vision A place in service for the universal language of the arts that trascends time. The colors, sounds, and scents of nature; the seasonal gifts and surprises; the landscape’s sweetness, its harmony, all represent the generating forces and beauty of Orsolina28.

O28 was born from a deep sense of gratitude, a desire to share a natural setting and home to artists that will inspire timeless works of art.

Orsolina28’s desire is for everyone to recognize dance as a vehicle for discovery, freedom, courage, and joy; an opportunity to express freely and without judgement; a place that houses inclusivity for anyone who wishes to experiment and research dance as a means for personal growth. In recent years, O28 has hosted dozens of internationally renowned dancers and choreographers who have inspired hundreds of young people.

A short, long story

Orsolina28 came to life in 2016 by the enthusiasm and passion of its founder, Simony Monteiro. She chose an unconventional place, an eighteenth-century farmhouse that once accommodated the monastery of the Orsoline Sisters of Moncalvo.

Built in 1794, next to a Romanesque parish surrounded by vineyards, O28 is located between Moncalvo and Penango, the heart of the Monferrato Astigiano region in Italy. The sinuous hills protect the land while the Western Italian Alps and Mount Monviso observe from afar.

Artists Over the years, many artists have shared the magical atmosphere of Orsolina28. Among them, those who taught, who performed or participated in a choreographic residency.
To all of them our deepest thanks for acknowledging our mission and vision.

Being together

The students, choreographers, companies, and artists who come to Orsolina28 have the opportunity to experience an authentic connection with each other and the natural splendor of the region.

At Orsolina28, we dance together, sleep together, laugh, eat, discover, and dream together.

The fellowship and energy of the philosophy permeates the grounds, and become essential in our training.

The Land

The garden is tended by the people who live and work here, among the vineyards that Orsolina28 overlooks. In this enchanted UNESCO World Heritage Site, the pleasure of sharing becomes the ingredient that makes a guest’s experience truly genuine.

The land is cultivated by both traditional means combined with advanced oenological and agronomic techniques, based on organic crops in season with the environment. The earthly gifts of the vineyard, the vegetable garden, and the orchard are wholeheartedly shared with the guests.

This is how O28 becomes the caretaker of "Italian" values and culinary flavors, dignifying nature and hospitality with grace and spontaneity.
